The new normal life order began to be implemented in Bali on Thursday (July 9). For people who have missed holidaying after the last few months staying at home without activities, now can prepare themselves.

As an alternative for a vacation, Bali Edelweis Park is a perfect choice for a visit. How not, the park which has dozens of Instagramable photo spots located in Banjar Temukus, Besakih Village, Rendang sub-district has a very beautiful view. The location is very accessible and is about 2 kilometers from Besakih Temple.

According to I Nengah Sueca as the manager, Bali Edelweis Park is planned to reopen on July 9. Nevertheless, he reminded the importance of applying health protocols in the region. “In this region we will enforce strict health procedures. Such as hand washing, checking body temperature, and wearing a mask and always keeping a distance,” he said.

Related to the background of the construction of the Bali Edelweis Park, Sueca revealed that this idea emerged originating to revive the economy of Besakih Village which had collapsed due to the eruption of Mount Agung at the end of 2017. “Because of the red alert status of Mount Agung, many residents of Banjar Temukus and surrounding areas were forced to find shelters. The problem is that Banjar Temukus is on the slopes of Mount Agung within 4.5 kilometers of the summit of the crater, which is a Disaster-Prone Areas (KRB) III, so that it becomes a target of volcanic ash rain,” he remembers.

At that time, he also took refuge with his family and other residents of Banjar Temukus. After the eruption ended, in 2018 villagers were asked to return home. However, because refugees are more comfortable in refugee camps and have already rented land there, many of them are reluctant to return home. For this reason, an initiative emerged to create Edelweis Park covering an area of 2 hectares so that residents would return to the village. So, this park is only 2 years old, or since July 15, 2018. “Apparently, this Edelweis Park attraction can be welcomed by the wider community. Every day, many visitors come to take photos with edelweis or kasna background,” he explained.

With the success of managing this tourist spot, he said this was a gift from God behind the eruption of Mount Agung. This park has more than a dozen photo spots, one of which is Taman Surga. The entrance ticket price for domestic tourists is IDR. 20.000. That includes insurance packages, parking, and free wifi.

He explained that before the COVID-19 pandemic, the number of people visiting the park reached an average of more than 200 people per day. Of that number, the most domestic visitors compared to foreign visitors. In fact, at the peak of the visit, the number can reached as many as 7,000 people per day, namely in December. After that the number returned to normal. (MBP1)
