Deputy Governor of Bali Tjokorda Oka Artha Ardhana Sukawati or often called Cok Ace invites tourism practitioners in Bali to maintain optimism. He also hoped that the deterioration of Bali’s tourism due to the Covid-19 pandemic could be a momentum to organize Bali’s tourism to become more resilient and directed.
The ISI Denpasar Professor observed that Bali’s tourism sector had so far seemed to be less controlled. “Now is a good moment to arrange either the market segment or regional regulation,” Cok Ace said on Saturday (June 13).
Responding to the insistence of a number of parties that Bali be immediately reopened to tourists, Cok Ace asked all parties to be patient. The Central Task Force for Accelerating the Handling of COVID-19 sets 3 criteria with 11 indicators for regions in Indonesia to reopen its economic activities. One indicator is a decrease in the number of positive cases over the past 2 weeks of at least 50 percent since the peak of the positive addition of Covid-19.
Looking at the progress of Covid-19 in Bali in recent weeks, has not shown a sloping graph because the addition of the number of cases is still volatile. This development indicates that Bali has not met the criteria to reopen the economic sector, in this case tourism. In other words, Cok Ace said that currently Bali is still in a transition period.
In addition to adjusting to the central regulation, to reopen the tourism sector, Bali must also adjust to the policies of various countries’ governments. As a result of coordination with a number of countries that have become Bali’s tourism market, several new countries have reopened access to the outside in October. “Even if we slowly reopen (tourism), maybe we will work on the domestic market first,” he concluded.
