Not only flooded houses in Medewi, Jembrana, the overflowing of rivers in Pulukan, Pekutatan Sub-district, Friday (January 15) in the morning, also cut off road access in the village and washed away dozens of cows. Most of the residents who live along the river have evacuated valuables from inside their houses to the roads.

There have been no reports of casualties in the incident. However, dozens of cows belonging to residents were washed away by the water to the shore. On Friday morning, a number of residents were seen evacuating stranded cows near Medewi beach. Until noon, joint officers from the BPBD, Police, Indonesian National Army, and local villagers tried to help the affected residents.

According to Acting Chief Executive of the BPBD Jembrana, I Gusti Ngurah Dharma Putra, river water overflowed from the North and hit several weirs in Medewi. In fact, two weirs located north of the settlement were also flooded. The water level even exceeds the sluice gate and inundates the sluice building. Garbage from the North, both branches and tree trunks, seemed to fill the door and the top of the weir.

Officers carry out data collection and assistance to affected residents. From the data collected, it is known that three houses were affected. Even in the worst case, there was one house that was eroded and swept away by the flood. “The impact of overflowing water also cut off road along the riverbanks,” he said. (MBP)
