Two foreigners from the US, Roland and Ridge, reportedly got lost in the Slumbung Village Forest, Sunday (June 21). Previously, the two tourists began their journey using a motorbike from Amed around 17.00 Local Time, heading to Pererenan by using Google Map. However, apparently the instructions were headed for Selumbung and they were lost in Bukit Catu, Manggis Sub-district, Karangasem.
“They panicked because they felt lost and it was getting dark, then one of them immediately contacted his friend Isabela to ask for help,” explained Gede Darmada, S.E., M.AP. as Head of Denpasar Search and Rescue Office (Basarnas Bali).
He said that at that time the victims’ friend immediately contacted the Bali Search and Rescue Office to provide a report. “That night the informant, Isabela, immediately came to the Bali Search and Rescue Office at 9:20 pm,” he explained.
Darmada said that they kept trying to find a way to get out, but because the terrain was down and slippery, finally Roland and Ridge decided to get off the motorbike and walk while trying to ask for help by looking for residents’ homes.
Bali Search and Rescue Office deployed the team from Karangasem SAR Post, then together with SAR elements began combing the forest through steep hills. Finally, at 11:30 pm the target was found at 8 ° 28.14.2’S Coordinate – 115 ° 31.40’E. They were located in good condition, and only experienced blisters on their hands. They only bring drinking water that is almost over.
“Luckily they can still access the internet network, so they can share their location and it turns out that their position is not too far from the path,” he said.
It spends approximately 1 hour to locate the two foreigners and take them out from the forest. Both were evacuated to the Manggis Sector Police for further processing.
The SAR operation involved 5 rescuers from Karangasem SAR Post, 5 personnel from Karangasem Regional Police, 5 personnel from Mangis Sector Police, Mudi Taker guide and the local community. (MBP)
