This year’s Denpasar City Government annual festival known as the Denpasar Festival (Denfest) is entering its 13th implementation in 2020. This year’s implementation is very different from previous years, which was held in a hybrid or online.
This iconic festival that presents a variety of artistic, culinary and craft creativity, was opened by the Minister of Tourism and Creative Economy of the Republic of Indonesia, Wisnutama Kusubandio virtually on Friday (October 10). With the theme “‘Kreativitas Meretas Batas”, the opening ceremony was held by presenting the inauguration by Siwa Natara Raja as the spirit of the longest and largest online festival in Indonesia.
The Minister of Tourism and Creative Economy of the Republic of Indonesia, Wisnutama Kusubandio said in his remarks that the outbreak of Covid-19 in Indonesia, including in Bali, had a serious impact on all sectors of people’s lives. Bali, which is known as the main tourist destination in Indonesia, also has to go through difficult times due to restrictions on community activities.
Like the theme of this year’s Denpasar Festival, it is hoped that people’s creativity will not stop amid the pandemic. That way, people can still take advantage of the opportunities that exist to survive, mutually support one another through the “pride made in Indonesia” national movement.
His party also appreciated all parties who have contributed to the holding of the Denpasar Festival, especially the government and the people of Denpasar City who continue to be optimistic in working amid this pandemic. “Hopefully this activity can be part of the national economic recovery,” he said while officially opening the 13th Denpasar Festival.
In the sidelines of the opening ceremony, Mayor Rai Mantra said that entering the year 2020, the Covid 19 pandemic which has spread throughout the world, also hit the Denpasar area. Besides affected all people in the world, the pandemic also restricted activities in Denpasar City. As a consequence, the economic condition of the community has worsened. It was explained that Denfest 2020 is an expression as well as a proof of the creativity of the people of Denpasar. How in the midst of the difficulties of the impact of Covid-19, they are still able to hold activities to survive and stretch the city’s economy. Of course, by complying with the Covid-19 health protocol.
“History shows that creativity can break all boundaries. No matter how difficult the situation is, if it is creative, we will be able to face it safely and we will come out as winners. On the other hand, if we are not creative, we will only lament and complain and continue to dwell in the puddle of difficulties. Therefore, under any circumstances, keep the fire of creativity burning,” said Rai Mantra. (MBP)
