Kedonganan Customary Village, Kuta sub-district, continues to strive to develop regional potential. Popular for its culinary tours on the West Coast, Kedonganan Customary Village is now trying to develop mangrove forest eco-tourism. This development concept is called Ecomangrove which is located on the east coast of Kedonganan.

Head of Kedonganan Customary Village, dr. I Wayan Mertha, SE., MSi., said that the 1.37 hectare mangrove forest on the east coast of Kedonganan has been used for fishing activities. In this mangrove forest there are various marine biota, so that his party considers that this area is suitable to be developed for tourism, especially eco-tourism. This, he said, was also an effort to generate local potential on the East Coast.

“The basis remains environmental conservation. Later, tourists can get to know the mangrove forest ecosystem and its important role for the environment as a whole. The point is we want mangrove forests to remain sustainable and invite all parties to take part in preserving mangrove forests,” he explained.

Mertha said that the culture of the fishing community will also be priority. In later development, he will involve the fishermen and promote the activities of traditional fishermen as one of the attractions of tourism. So, tourism and fishing activities will go together.

In order to achieve the goal, his party held environmental management activities. Like last July 21, his party invited fishermen groups, the village head, community empowerment agency and community components to plant mangroves. A total of 2.500 mangrove seedlings were planted to protect the local ecosystem. (MBP1)
