A quick response was done by the youths of Tengkudak Village and the Bisa Terbiasa Community of Wongaya Gede Village regarding the large amount of plastic waste on the summit of Mount Batukaru left by irresponsible climbers. They worked together to clean the mountain peak and hiking track which is also called Mount Batukau.

Former Vice Chairperson of STT Satya Dharma Yowana, Tengkudak, I Made Arya Cahya Putra said that he worked together with Banjar Tengkudak and Banjar Denuma youths. A total of 21 people of Tengkudak Village made the hike on Friday (June 26) at 08.00 Local Time. They arrived at the peak at 2:00 p.m. and climbed down on Saturday (June 27). The purpose of the hike is to visit and clean the area of Puncak Kedaton Temple. This activity was done by working together with young people from the Wongaya Gede Village who are members of the Bisa Terbiasa Community.

Arya said that along the hiking path is clean, although there are some bottles and plastic trash that are thrown by irresponsible climbers. “But when we got to the top we were very surprised by the large piles of food wrapping plastic waste. We immediately collect the scattered garbage and then we burn it because if we bring all the garbage down we will be overwhelmed to carry it, because there are so many,” he said.

Garbage burning is carried out from evening to night and continues to be monitored so as not to cause a fire. Burning continues in the morning until the garbage runs out. “Before we climbed down, we also made sure that there was no living fire and buried the rest of the burning with soil. When we climbed down, we also cleaned the garbage in the path that had been collected the day before,” Arya said.

After the youths from Tengkudak Village did the cleaning, then it was continued by the youths of Wongaya Gede Village who were members of the Bisa Terbiasa Community who combed the hiking path up to the peak of Mount Batukaru. “We are from the Bisa Terbiasa Community combed the hiking path of Mount Batukaru together with 6 members. We climbed on Tuesday, June 31 at 23:00 and climbed down today at 18:00. The situation at the peak was clear because the youths of Tengkudak Village had done the cleaning. But there are still cans that cannot be burned, we bring down as much as one sack, “said Chairman of the Bisa Terbiasa Community, I Gede Ari Setiawan.

Ari Setiawan supports the effots of the Head of Wongaya Gede Customary Village and Chairman of the Batukau Temple, I Ketut Sucipto, which temporarily closed access to hiking Mount Batukau to avoid natural damage. Because so far so many have climbed to the top just to take pictures for the sake of content on social media alone, but not participate in preserving nature. “If the natural preservation of Mount Batukaru is damaged, the first effect will be felt by people who live on the slopes of the mountain. In fact, it will also spread to the villages below our village,” he said. (MBP5)
