A Bryde’s whale was found dead and stranded on Batu Belig beach, Batu Belig neighborhood, Kelurahan Kerobokan Kelod, North Kuta, Badung, Thursday (January 21). The whale carcass measuring 13 meters long was already in a rotting condition.

According to the explanation of the Head of the Coastal and Marine Resources Management Office, Permana Yudiarso, ST. MT., when discovered, this whale had been rotten for a long time. In fact, he said, because it had been dead for a long time, the whale’s body was inflated. There were no scars found in the whale’s body. Thus, it is estimated that the whale died due to illness.

“The whale’s body has swollen. There is no sign of any injuries from this whale. It is likely that the whale died in about 2 weeks, and was carried away,” Permana said.

This type of whale, he said, usually lives in the southern sea of ​​Bali, with a depth of more than 200 meters. This whale is thought to have died in the middle of the sea. For the cause, it is not known.
“The habitat is in South Bali with a depth of more than 200 meters,” he explained.

Based on the information from the Head of the Batu Belig Kauh Neighborhood, I Made Alit Juni Setiawan, this whale was seen at around 9:00 a.m. At that time, the whale was seen floating in front of the Balisani Hotel which was then carried away again. At 10.00 Indonesia Central Time, this whale was found stranded right on the beach in front of the W Bali hotel.

The whale carcass was then evacuated and buried with the help of heavy equipment, including 1 excavator and 2 loaders from the Badung Environment and Sanitation Office. At 13.20 pm, the evacuation process was completed. (MBP1)
